Office clerk Jenny is about to marry heir Dick Hamilton, when Dick's guardian determines to prevent him from marrying beneath his station. His sordid scheme leads to the couple's split and reduces Jenny to a life of poverty and squalor. Starvation, marriage to a racketeer and a murder charge ensue for the hapless girl. Jenny's shocking courtroom revelations are a last ditch effort to save herself from the electric chair.

Directed by Richard Thorpe (Night Must Fall, Ivanhoe, Jailhouse Rock), this production was officially condemned by the Catholic Church. - Tom Weaver
