van Gilse's Symphony No. 4 premiered Nov. 28, 1915, with the composer himself conducting the Concertgebouw Orchestra.-Â After this great performance success his publisher printed a hundred scores (though van Gilse had to cover the costs).-Â And so it was that his powerful and individual 4th-Â symphony was not forgotten. In fact, it became one of his most performed works.
