The top part that is inside the wood and truck holes is not threaded, so the bolt fits snugly and has less vibration, which keeps the nuts from loosening and makes the bolts and the board last longer. 1 1/2" is great for old school and longboard setups allowing you to use at least a 1/4" Riser.
