This 316L Surgical Stainless Steel captive ring is available in 20 gauge, 18 gauge, 16 gauge, 14 gauge and in 1/4 inch (6mm), 5/16 inch (8mm), 3/8 inch (10mm), 1/2 inch (12mm) or 5/8 inch (16mm) inner diameters. Inner diameter is measured in a straight line across the inside of the ring. The 1/4 inch, 5/16 inch and 3/8 inch captive bead rings will have a 5/32 inch (4mm) diameter captive ball. The 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch captive bead rings will have a 1/4 inch (6mm) diameter captive ball. Captive rings are also known as BCR ball closure rings. The ball is held in by pressure and hoop must be opened slightly to get ball out. Some of the heavier gauge captive rings (14 gauge and higher) may require captive ring opening pliers to open them and remove the ball. These do not work like regular earrings and they can be tricky to use.
