Why is enteric-coated serrapeptase necessary?

Enteric coating is a layer of protective coating for dietary supplements that is meant to allow the supplement to bypass the acidic content of the stomach and be absorbed in the small intestine. Serrapeptase's functional structures are denatured in conditions of extreme pH and temperature. Without enteric coating, it would be rendered useless long before it reaches the bloodstream, where it carries out beneficial effects. At AST Enzymes, we use Methacrylic Acid Copolymer (MAAC) for enteric-coating, a food-grade compound free of phthalates.
