A Few Hints for Longer Rock Tumbler Life Now that you are actively shopping to replace a broken, stretched or otherwise worn rock tumbler belt-your choice of our replacement belts is indeed a good One .Replacing a belt is certainly a lot cheaper than buying a new tumbler! However, please understand that early or premature breakage of your tumbler's current belt may be indicative or a "flag" telling you that other issues may be at play here (other than just a belt that broke)..If available, please refer to your tumbler's original manual. Review the important operational and maintenance information. As your tumbler (& it's belt) up to now may have been running well-there is now evidently some new checks and/or maintenance that are recommended. Examples could be: Is your tumbling load proper and not too heavy? A Heavy load will stall the shafts & pulleys eventually breaking the belt..Insure that the load does not exceed manufacturer's specifications. HINT: a 3 lb tumbler should have a load that with both it's load (rocks, water & grit) and the barrel itself measured should not exceed 3 lbs. Check and clean as necessary the outer surfaces of the barrel. Your barrel needs to be slip-free-clean & dry. Was your belt properly tensioned? The belt needs to move freely without binding or without too much excess play. Are the belt's pulleys aligned and moving freely and moving the shafts equally as well? A belt should be positioned on the pulleys with a reasonable amount of "slack" as well. Are the shafts moving smoothly, do the bearings need lubrication? Do you feel or hear any "grinding" or roughness when turning the shafts? Do the shafts' surfaces need cleaning? Remove the belt (motor) housing and (carefully)allow tumbler to run while you watch these various mechanical movements. Everything should be freely and smoothing moving-silently. With proper vigilance, maintenance and due diligence a tumbler can last & run for decades.
