When I told my best friend Samantha that I thought my husband was having an affair, she told me pointblank that I was wrong. "No," she said. "He would be stupid to ever cheat on you." Her confidence convinced me of his fidelity. Then, standing motionless in our living room, I watched as he thrust himself wildly into another woman.
