Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentate), aka Yamato Shrimp, are one of the most popular andhardy freshwater aquarium species. They grow about twice as large as dwarf shrimp, attaining amaximum size of over 2 inches, and typically live a much longer lifespan! Native to SoutheastAsia, they are clear and translucent with a pearl blue tint, and are covered in small red dots.Unlike most dwarf shrimp species, Amano Shrimp will only reproduce in brackish water (seawater mixture), so they will almost certainly never breed in a home aquarium.Amano Shrimp are compatible with smaller sizes of peaceful fish, including the following:Guppies, Rasboras, Danios, Endlers, Dwarf Pleco, and Cardinal Tetra and Neon Tetra. They’realso compatible with most types of snail, including Nerites, Mystery Snails, Sulawesi Snails, andRamshorns. Other dwarf shrimp species are also great to keep with Amano Shrimp, such as SkyBlue Shrimp and Rili Shrimp.Like most shrimp, Amano Shrimp live in colonies and spend most of their time foraging forfood. These active yet peaceful filter feeders are possibly the most voracious aquarium algaeeaters you’ll find! There’s no need for an algae scrubber if you have Amano Shrimp, as a colonywill often eradicate even the most persistent algae growth on plants and aquarium decorations(even hair algae!). The bulk of their diet is biofilm, algae, and decaying plant matter, so they willwork diligently to clean up the waste in any aquarium. However, they do not bother live plants. In a less mature aquarium, they should be fed high quality flake and mini pellet dry foods withhigh algae/spirulina/plant content.CARE GUIDELINES:- Temperature: 64° - 84° F (17.8° - 28.8° C)- pH: 6.5 - 7.5- KH: 0 - 10 dKH- Minimum tank size:2 gallons- Average adult size: 1 - 2+ inches (2.5 - 5+ cm)- Average purchase size: 1/2 - 1 inch (1.3 - 2.5 cm)- WARNING: Copper is toxic to invertebrates.
