For four thousand years, artisans have baked clay to cover floors, roofs, and walls. This ancient craft naturally attracted the interest of William Morris and Henry Chapman Mercer, guiding lights of the Arts and Crafts movement. Their work in turn inspired Nawal Motawi, who in 1992 founded her eponymous tileworks in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
