Product Review

This book is aimed at lute beginners and also guitarists who are interested in playing Renaissance lute music, either on a lute or a guitar. Uniquely, both Lute Tablature AND Guitar TAB are included, as well as notes on technique, biographies of lute composers of the 16th century and general advice on buying a lute, stringing and tuning and more. The book starts with single-line melodies before progressing to two-part pieces. Then full repertoire pieces are included by great Renaissance composers, such as John Dowland, Francesco da Milano, Alonso Mudarra, Francesco Spinacino, and others. The music presented is from England, Scotland, Italy, France and Germany. A useful chord chart is included. Every piece in the book has been recorded and is included as an online download. The audio recording is by Rob MacKillop as is quite enjoyable listening.
