Howard Pyle was an American author and illustrator. Most of Pyle's books were intended for children but adults have also enjoyed reading his fantastic adventure and historical stories. Pyle is especially well known for his pictures of pirates which have popularized the prevalent stereotypes for how pirates are supposed to dress.
