This sumptuous presentation of the collection of the Van Gogh Museum is a richly orchestrated picture of 19th-century art, with Vincent van Gogh at its center. The book, illustrated in color throughout, includes a generous selection of works from every period of Van Gogh's creativity. In addition, works originally acquired by Vincent and his brother Theo through purchase or exchange are included -- paintings by Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Monticelli, Pissarro, and others. A broad and diverse selection of European art of the later 19th century provides a further context for Van Gogh's paintings.
