Among the big band leaders of the 1930s and '40s, Artie Shaw was considered one of the most innovative and creative. His rendition of "Begin the Beguine" is the one everybody remembers and set the gold standard for that song. Yet, his arrangements and solos on the licorice stick are second to none.
