The geartooth cutter holder is similar to a fly cutter, except the ¼ lathe tool is held perpendicular to the cutter axis rather than angled downward. The HSS tool can be ground on a bench grinder to the shape of the desired gear tooth and tear teeth are then cut one at a time using this single-pointed tool. This is a less expensive alternative to using round involute gear cutters. Designed for use with Sherline headstock spindle.
