Gruman worked closely with the navy on AEW (airborn early warning) during WWII. Improved versions resulted in the Hawkeye in 1960. This unusual design was used in the 1970Õs. Radar range was 230 miles. 374 miles per hour was top speed and wingspan was 81 feet.
