Claude Debussy, inspired by Balinese music at the 1896 Paris Exposition, began composing with this atonal scale; used, for example, in his piece, "La Mer". Later, television's original "Star Trek" used it in the "beaming up" sequences. TV and film scores frequently feature it for underwater, dream, and "flashback" scenes. The size(voice) mezzo is one half octave higher than the size(voice) alto. The overall hanging length, from the top of the knot to the bottom of the windcatcher is 38". The weight is 5lbs.
- Musically Tuned - Whole Tone tuning was used by Claude Debussy when he became inspired by Balinese music at the 1896 Paris Exposition. TV and film scores frequently feature this scale for underwater, dream, and flashback scenes.
- Made in the USA - Music of the Spheres wind chimes are individually handcrafted and come in 5 sizes (Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) with 11 tunings (Pentatonic, Hawaiian, Quartal, Balinese, Chinese, Japanese, Mongolian, Whole Tone, Aquarian, Gypsy and Nashville) and the Westminster, Contrabass and Basso Profundo are offered in one unique size and tuning.
- All Weather - Tempered aluminum alloy tubing is custom manufactured to our exacting specifications and will never rust. Our finish preserves the wind chime's appearance and increases durability in hostile outdoor environments.
- Advanced Materials - Tough synthetic cordage is highly resistant to abrasion, and ultra-violet degradation. Central tube suspension with smoothly polished tube ends prevent cord abrasion typical of other, less labor-intensive tubular wind chimes suspension techniques.
- Detachable Windcatcher - With the same material and finish as the tubes, our windcatcher is the ideal size, weight, and shape for optimal chime performance in 8 - 10 mph wind velocity. The hook assembly provides a simple but effective method of varying the wind chime's activity level.
