Even into his 70's Joe Zawinul remains one of the most vital musicians around. From his work in the '60s with Cannonball Adderley to his inspirational turn with Miles Davis, the awesome legacy of Weather Report and his own unique groove heavy world-fusion Zawinul remains one of jazz's most inspirational figures. Vienna Nights allows us to capture that experience. Recorded over two weeks at Zawinul's own club The Birdland in Vienna, it captures Zawinul's band in typically blistering form and features a host of great names as friends dropped by to help celebrate the club and the man himself.
