The Beverly Hillbillies television show was a slapstick comedy featuring the Clampetts, an Ozark family who struck oil in their yard, were paid $25 million for it, then moved to Beverly Hills. The show stars Buddy Epson as Jed Clampett, a widower and patriarch of the clan, Irene Ryan as Granny, Jed's wacky mother-in-law, Donna Douglas as Elly May Clampett, Jed's gorgeous ad naive daughter, and Max Baer as Jethro, Jed's cousin who was as stupid as he was strong. The stories center around the Clampetts encounters with the big city and its corrupt politics, unfamiliar fashions, indoor plumbing, and all other trappings of modern life. It's easy to see why The Beverly Hillbillies was one of CBS' longest running situation comedies and the number one show in the country for the first 2 years of its nine-year stint.
