Francisco Romero, an idealistic young teacher at a Mexico City high school, learns that his job involves more than teaching his new students; he needs to earn their respect, be a positive influence, and at times even be their friend. Unable to play the part of the disinterested observer, Francisco tries to guide his students through the obstacles of poverty, delinquency, domestic violence, pregnancy, addiction, rape and prostitution. In addition to being their teacher, he assumes the role of advisor, doctor, psychologist, defender-even detective.
