Synopsis: "Sangam Bhavan" an old palace, has acquired the reputation of being a haunted house as years ago a Raja had built it for his beloved queen Kamini, but he was murdered on his wedding night. The queen was waiting for Raja to return till she died.Shankar, whose father bought this place, moves into the palace and notices his resemblance to a portrait of the Raja and sees the ghost of Kamini (Maghubala) who tells him he must either die if they are to be united or that he must marry her reincarnation, the gardener's daughter, Asha. His friend Shrinath (Kumar) tries to break the obsession by arranging Shankar's marriage to Ranjana (Vijayalakshmi). However, Shankar's obsession continues and he cannot consummate his marriage because of the pull the "Spirit" has over him.After some years his wife Ranjana commits suicide and Shankar is accused of the murder. The truth comes out in the courtroom drama when the gardner's daughter admits to having masqueraded as the ghost. Shankar is ultimately sentenced to be hanged. Now there is a strange reverse of fortunes as Asha is obsessed with Shanker, he is now the ghost fascinated by Asha.
