Ben Cartwright teaches his young sons to face the harsh world of the Western frontier with moral courage. When their mother is killed by a greedy man, Ben's sons want vengeance, but Ben tells them they have to let the law take care of it. "How we behave when things are bad makes us who we are," he explains. Then, Ben's own resolve is challenged when the law releases the guilty man for lack of evidence.
