Product Review
Upcoming movie "Yoo Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg" showing in New York on July 10, 2009, was spawned from the television series "The Goldbergs". Gertrude Berg won the first ever Emmy for lead actress in a comedy series. The Goldbergs, a domestic comedy-drama series about a struggling Jewish family in New York City, aired from 1949-1956, after almost twenty years on radio. Striking a gentle balance between old world values and assimilation into the American melting pot, The Goldbergs is a show about the importance of neighborhood and family. Writer/actress Gertrude Berg plays the matriarch of the extended family with charm, warmth and wit. Her signature "Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Bloom" at the beginning of each episode became a national catch phrase. Life magazine wrote of The Goldbergs, "For millions of Americans, listening to the show...is a happy ritual, like slipping on a pair of comfortable old shoes that never seem to wear out."
