Strap in for a rollicking ride to the early days of space travel, and lift off with comedy at the controls. After Charley the chimp successfully orbits the moon, it's a space race against time as a reluctant volunteer (Tom Tryon) becomes next in line. The fiercely organized plans of his mission director (Brian Keith) go hysterically awry when a beautiful "spy" appears. She has a vital -- and quite unearthly -- bit of information that could save the mission from failure, but the authorities quickly launch their own project -- an elaborate plan to keep astronaut and spy worlds apart. The result is out-of-this-world laughs for all!|The movie pokes fun at beatniks, Secret Service men, and politicians. When one senator asks too may questions at space headquarters, a scientist asks him "Haven't you read our booklet, 'Simple Science For Senators?'"
