The Tempo Communications 501 Tracker II cable locator (formerly Greenlee Communications) can be used to trace the route of buried cables or other electrically conductive paths, on active or dead systems. When working near live cables always use caution and methods prescribed by your employer or trade organisation. Ideally use the direct connection method to attach the transmitter to proven dead cables, which is the safest method and will give maximum tracing range and depth (up to 4000 foot range and down to 7 foot depth). If you cannot isolate the cable or pipe then you may also use one of the inductive coupling methods for the transmitter. The clamp has an opening large enough for a three inch cable or duct. Alternately, there is an antenna built into the carry case which can be placed in line with the cable and induce a usable signal. Please see the instruction manual for full details.
