The Persistence of Memory (1931) by Salvador Dali. Dali's melting watches, or as some would say, limp watches, have become among the most memorable images of modern art. This painting is only slightly bigger then a book, yet its impact is tremendous. Dali gives almost no clues to the interpretation of the painting, thus it is open for speculation.
