Reni, an aspiring singer, is introduced to Latin superstar Chayanne by her boyfriend, record producer Santiago. As Reni’s fame grows, her friendship with Chayanne develops into a romance. Meanwhile, Santiago’s jealousy turns to hatred and he joins forces with Reni’s mentally deranged sister, Sandra, to cause a stage mishap that leaves the singer paralyzed and with amnesia. After a miraculous recovery, Reni returns to the stage, but must assume the guise of "Chakira” to make her unrecognizable to her enemies.
