Pride of Hankins is an old heirloom cultivar whose heritage has been lost. It was very popular in the 40's to 60's and is frequently found growing on older building lots from that period. This hibiscus remains a first choice for grafting stock for hybridizers and growers of fancy grafted hibiscus. Flowers of bright, hot, fuchsia to salmon toned pink with an attractive long stamen that protrudes from the center of dense, double and triple rows of petals. This cultivar is also called Carnation. Plant in well draining, slightly acidic soil preferably in full sun with good irrigation. Protect from frost and freeze. Suitable outdoors in Zones 9, 10, 11 and may be grown as a potted plant indefinitely.
