The Mitutoyo 543-472B Absolute Digimatic electronic indicator gauge, ID-C series, is for measuring short, linear distances in mechanical engineering, machining, and manufacturing applications. It has a measurement range of 0 to 1" (0 to 25.4mm), a resolution of 0.00005" (0.001mm), and an accuracy of + or - 0.0001". The LCD screen displays measurements in inches and metric units. The indicator has a go/no-go display that lights green or red, respectively, when upper and/or lower tolerances have been set, and the result can be displayed in full-size characters. The face of the indicator can be rotated 330 degrees for reading from different directions. This unit has a 3/8" diameter stem and a #4-48 UNF contact point thread mount. It has a flat back for stem/plate mounting. An Absolute electrostatic capacitance-type linear encoder helps prevent overspeed errors for taking accurate measurements. This model is Ingress Protection certified IP42 for protection against objects greater than 1mm and dripping water.
Additional functions for this indicator include origin set, preset, zero set, counting direction switching, and alerts for low voltage, counting value composition, overflow, and tolerance limit setting errors. The measuring force is 1.8 Newtons (N) or less. It has a battery life of approximately 7,000 hours of normal use. This unit comes with a SR-44 battery and lifting lever. This gauge offers serial data output (using optional SPC cables, sold separately), which increases speed and reliability of digital measurement records.

H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.
Dial indicators are also called dial gauges, probe, and electronic indicators. These precision instruments measure small linear distances and object sizes. The dial magnifies the measurement so that it can be easily read by the human eye. Frequently used in manufacturing, laboratories, and other industrial or mechanical fields, dial indicators are used anywhere a small measurement must be found and recorded or transferred, such as checking the variation in tolerance of a workpiece. Standard dial indicators measure the displacement along the axis of the indicator. Dial test indicators are very similar to dial indicators, except that the axis of measurement is perpendicular to the axis of the indicator. Dial and dial test indicators can be analog, with a mechanical dial, or electronic, with a digital display. Some electronic models transfer the data electronically to a computer for recording and potential manipulation.
