Balsa is an extremely lightweight, fast-growing wood that first became popular during WWII as an ideal material for full-size aircraft. Revell Balsa is produced by a company that's been manufacturing top-quality balsa airplane model kits for over 30 years. All Revell Balsa is model grade quality, a type that can only be produced from the best 10-15% of a tree. Logs are imported from Ecuador, weighed to determine their density and then hand-sorted by size to ensure that all products are made only from the "model grade" section of each tree. During the quality control process, micrometers are used to ensure tolerances of +/- 0.002 inches and consistently good results, time after time.
