Originally from Milano, panettone has become the ultimate of Italian cakes. It can be found in almost every Italian household around the holidays. Panettone is a rich egg bread that is traditionally served after the your holiday meal along with a glass of dessert wine, mixed nuts, dried fruit, and torrone. This cherry panettone is made with a special natural yeast which gives it a soft delicate texture and is studded with plump Amarena (black) cherries. Absolutely delicious, you probably won't have any left-overs, however, if you do Rustichella d'Abruzzo's Cherry Panettone makes incredible french toast. Beautifully wrapped in red paper and tied with raffia bow ribbon. It can be simply toasted or served with creme anglaise or fresh cream whipped with fresh mascarpone...and it also makes EXCELLENT bread pudding.
