Drag Racer is the story of a young man trying to break into the highly competitive world of Top Fuel Drag Racing. It reveals his obstacles and showcases his determination, with or without the help and support of those he considers important to him. The movie climaxes with his eventual competition. And the rest tells whether or not he has what it takes to be champion. Drag Racer was filmed on location at West Coast race tracks including Irwindale Raceway, Amarillo Dragway, Lions Dragstrip and Orange County International Raceway and features racing by Top Fuel greats as Bill Schultz, John Lombardo, Norm Wilcox and Larry Dixon. The movie opens with actual footage of Gerry Glenn winning over Don Garlits for the 1971 World Championship. The cast is played by Hollywood actors boasting a very impressive list of credits from motion picture and television roles in the 1960s and 1970s with some of their resumes reaching far beyond that time. Mark Slade is the Drag Racer. His credits include "The High Chaparral", "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", Benji and many appearances in "Gomer Pyle". Deborah Walley is well-recognized from the "bikini" movies of the 1960s. She even played Gidget in the movie Gidget Goes Hawaiian. Supporting actors John Davis Chandler and Jeremy Slate appeared in many series including "Gunsmoke", "Perry Mason" and "Adam-12" to name only a few. Drag Racer is a great movie for any Drag Racing enthusiast and any movie buff alike.
