Aronia 'Viking' (Aronia melanocarpa) Grown for its healthful benefits, Aronia 'Viking' is a "superfruit" that boosts your body's immune system to combat stress-related diseases. Aronia berries have extremely high levels of antioxidants and vitamin C; in fact the anthocyanin levels are among the highest recorded. Easy-to-grow, this multi-stemmed deciduous shrub has clusters of white flowers that appear in May followed by large violet-black berries that ripen in late summer. The foliage turns an attractive red color in fall. 'Viking' is a self-fertile variety that's a prolific fruiter. Berries are usually made into juice (mixed with apple juice for sweetness), teas, jams, wine or syrup. Grow in full sun.
