The Alyssum Sweet Oriental Nights, 'Lobularia maritima', displays tiny, rich, solid, deep purple flowers that make this low ground cover a delight. It is a wonderful annual ground cover. The Alyssum blooms all growing season. Nothing adds more to summer days than the frangrance of sweet Alyssum. The flowers are very small at 1/4 inch deep purple blooms that appear in clusters. They will continue to bloom until fall frost. In climate zones 9 and 10, they can bloom all year. Alyssum begin to bloom just 6 weeks after planting Sweet Oriental Nights prefers full sun or light shade and rich, well drained soils. Alyssum is not too picky and can withstand poor soils also. Plant them after the last average frost date in the spring. In mild areas, seed can be sown in the fall for winter blooming.
