In the early 1980s, the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs were riding high on the backs of Eric Dickerson & Craig James€ celebrated €œPony Excess€ backfield. One of the best teams in the nation, the school was rocked when the NCAA meted out the €œdeath penalty€ on a college football program for the first and only time in its history. A devastating verdict, the football team would lack an identity for more than 20 years.

Director Thaddeus D. Matula, an SMU film school grad, chronicles the rise, fall and rebirth of this once mighty team.
