Eccentric countess (played by Bergman!) takes a young chambermaid--an aspiring vocalist--under her wing in turn-of-the-century Rome. Final film for director Vincente Minnelli as well as for Charles Boyer, this also marks one of Bergman's last roles. Bergman's daughter Isabella Rossellini makes her debut as a nun.
