Originating from Madagascar, Royal Poinciana or Flamboyant Tree, Flame Tree, delonix regia is the world's most colorful tropical tree. It is without doubt a magnificent tree and virtually everyone falls in love with it at first sight! For several weeks in spring and summer it is covered with bright fiery red/orange blossoms. Up close the individual flowers are absolutely striking. Even when not in bloom, with its graceful form and fernlike foliage, it is still one of the most beautiful trees in the world. Royal Poinciana is very fast growing, about 5 feet per year until maturity at 30-40 feet, and tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions. This tropical beauty is also well suited to pot culture, so even if you don't live in a tropical zone you can have fun growing this amazing plant. Surprisingly easy to grow from seed.
