- Variety: Sugar pie pumpkins, also known as pie pumpkins or baking pumpkins, are smaller than carving pumpkins, typically weighing between 2 to 6 pounds. They are part of the Cucurbita pepo species.
- Flavor and Texture: These pumpkins have a sweeter, less watery flesh compared to their larger counterparts, making them ideal for pies, soups, and other baked goods. Their texture is denser and smoother when cooked.
- Nutritional Benefits: They are rich in beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body, and also provide a good amount of fiber, potassium, and vitamin C.
- Growing: They have a relatively short growing season, typically 85-100 days, and thrive in well-drained soil with full sun. They are less stringy and have a better flavor when harvested before the first frost.
