Heliotropium arborescens or simply Heliotrope, is a lovely plant with dark violet-blue blooms and rich green foliage. Heliotrope is prized for its wonderful vanilla scent. This variety, Extra Dwarf Marine, has a profusion of bloom clusters all summer long. Heliotrope is well-suited for containers and pots. Bees and butterflies will visit it often! Heliotrope can be a perennial in frost-free zones but is grown as an annual in most areas. Start the seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last expected frost. Press the seeds into the soil and cover with ¼ inch of soil. Keep the seed moist until germination. With temperatures of 60 - 65F, germination is normally within 21 days. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed. Space the plants 12 inches apart. Pinch back the tops to encourage a bushier growth. Grow in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage prolonged flowering.

  • FRAGRANT, ATTRACTIVE BLOOMS: Planting Heliotrope flower seeds outdoors produces large, deep violet-blue flower heads that can reach up to 6 inches across while producing a delightful vanilla fragrance, providing a pleasant, aromatic experience. Making it the suitable outdoor perennial plants.
  • COMPACT, VERSATILE GROWTH: Our Heliotropium flower plant is a small, dwarf variety that reaches a height of just 10 inches, making it the suitable flower seeds to plant for small spaces like window boxes, containers, or garden borders. It grows in full sun to partial shade, adapting well to different light conditions.

Once planted, they require minimal care, with regular trimming to encourage continuous flowering throughout the summer and fall. Pinching back the tops of young plants promotes branching for a fuller, bushier form.
  • UNWANTED BY DEER AND SUITABLE FOR USDA ZONES 9-10: Heliotropes are naturally avoided by deer, making them a great choice for gardens and areas with frequent deer activity.
