Product Review
Hostas are a versatile addition for shady gardens and along sunless northern house foundations. They can be planted in mass and used as ground cover or some are large, showy plants that stand alone. This variety, Hosta sieboldiana, is nice and large. It produces large rounded-heart shaped leaves that are slightly wrinkled and a bluish-green in color. In the summer, white to lavender blooms emerge. They are trumpet-shaped and attractive to hummingbirds. Hostas thrive in partial shade to full shade and in moist but well-drained soil. Start Hosta seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the end of frost season. With average home temperatures, germination is usually within 35 days. Press the seed into the soil, cover it lightly with peat moss and keep the seed moist. Plant outdoors after danger of frost has passed and space the Hosta plants 30 inches apart. Hosta sieboldiana resists damage from slugs.
