Backyard Barn Owls is all about one of the world's most common birds, not commonly seen because they live by night. These awesome raptors are relentless rodent exterminators -- a single barn owl family will woof down thousands of gophers, rats and mice in a single year. Barn owls don't seem to mind living around human activity, and they are always welcome guests. The video shows first hand how a simple plywood box can attract a pair of barn owls to raise a family on your property. It s easy to try, and owl watching is all kinds of fun.

Video photographer Bert Kersey put up an owl box in his yard, and when two barn owls decided to move in, he attached a telescopic lens to his camcorder and started recording the action. For two years Bert shot the nighttime comings and goings of these magnificent hunters as they raised babies and terrorized the rodents in the neighborhood.

Backyard Barn Owls follows four little owlets from hatching in February through 'flight school' in May, when they must learn to fend for themselves. The narration discusses how to attract owls to your property, building your own owl box, and what you'll find inside those mysterious owl pellets. This video is as fun as it is fascinating -- audiences of all ages love it!

Backyard Barn Owls won an Award of Excellence trophy in Accolade's 2005 Nature and Wildlife video competition. It was also named 'Best Educational Video' at the 2004 San Diego County Fair. Backyard Barn Owls has garnered rave reviews at countless public presentations to groups ranging from Audubon clubs to grammar schools.
