In 1154 the geographer Edrisi in his work “Kitab-Rugiar” (The book of Ruggiero) spoke about itria (in Sicilian dialect itria means a very thin spaghetto). Until today in Sicily capellini (angel hair) are called itria. In the work of Edrisi we can read that In the town Trabia people produce vermicelli in a great quantity so that they can supply the southern of Italy and the Muslim areas.
