The neem tree was the first known for its healing characteristics by the Southeast Asia and India as early as 400 B.C. This ancient tree is fast growing, drought and poor soil resistant and keeps its leaves year long. In India, the neem tree is known as the "Divine Tree," "Heal All," and "Panacea for all diseases." All parts of the tree, such as the seeds, leaves, flowers and the bark have medicinal purposes. The leaves are commonly used to control pests.

When neem leaves are dryed in the sun, the color stays green. To keep away pests and insects, place the dry neem leaves near the grain, rice or other food products. Neem contains several active chemicals which work in different ways. Therefore, pests are unlikely to become resistant to neem. It is easy to prepare and use and also environmentally safe to humans and animals.
