Please note: you are only buying one 'string' of birds. The image shown is a true representation of the bell totas but there are multiple 'strings' of birds in the image. These 30-bird bell totas are made by the barefoot college, an ngo in rural rajasthan. Established in 1972, the barefoot college is a non-government organisation that has been providing basic services and solutions to problems in rural communities, with the objective of making them self-sufficient and sustainable. These 'barefoot solutions' can be broadly categorised into solar energy, water, education, health care, rural handicrafts, people's action, communication, women's empowerment and wasteland development. They are approximately 100cm (39") long and each bird has a small bell attached to the front and back and also has sequins hand sewn onto the sides. Each bird has been threaded onto a string and also has small coloured beads separating each bird. The birds are approximately 30 x 20 mm (1" x1") in size. There is also a lovely small bell at the bottom. They make an ideal door hanging and are traditional in indian households when welcoming guests. these bell totas are not toys; they contain small pieces so are unsuitable for children.
