I use a unique combination of ingredients to ensure the best possible casing product available. WHAT WILL YOU GET? You will receive 5 one pound bags of casing - heat sealed in an 8" mycobag. The casing is fully pasteurized and ready to use. WHEN SHOULD YOU USE CASING? Casing is the layer on top that retains moisture. Your mushrooms are about 90% water. They use moisture from the air and from their growing medium to fulfill their water needs. Casing provides protection from fast water evaporation for your tender young mycelium. As a general rule, the more mushrooms expected per square foot of surface area, the deeper the casing layer should be. Exactly what is casing, you ask? Casing is, in a nutshell, a non-nutritious moisture retaining layer spread on top of your substrate. It "encases" the substrate holding in precious water. In addition, casing helps prevent contamination and creates a micro-environment to help encourage even pin sets. Your casing needs to be sterilized, pH balanced and moisture content adjusted. Pasteurized casing provides all three of those precise conditions to bring you the perfect casing for your success. As a complete system for a bulk mushroom grow, I recommend you start with our sterilized Grain Spawn, do a grain transfer of your colonized grain spawn to a bulk substrate, and case at 80% colonization.
