Based on Edgar Wallace's most famous novel, "The Ringer" is a master criminal who can take on the face of anyone he chooses. Taking a tried-and-true formula, Wallace turned it on it's head. Instead of a 'whodunit', audiences were trying to figure out 'who is it' and the movie offers little help by supplying a large cast of suspects.
Gwenda Milton, secretary of attorney Maurice Messer, dies under mysterious circumstances. Unfortunately for her killers, she was the sister of Arthur Milton, better known as "The Ringer", a vigilante who escaped justice by fleeing to Australia years ago. Her death forces "The Ringer" to return to London to avenge her murder. And now Inspector Higgins from Scotland Yard has a difficult assignment. Breakup the white slave ring responsible for killing Gwenda and stop "The Ringer".
