This Amaranthus bicolor provides brilliant foliage color that will have your friends and neighbors taking a second look! This variety, called Illumination, gives a fiery display during the summer with tall, sturdy columns of green leaves leading up to gold and crimson foliage that nearly erupts with color! Some people call Amaranthus Illumination a summer Poinsettia. It gives a colorful display all summer long, and it likes a full sun position in the garden with well-draining soil. Start Amaranthus seed indoors in early spring. Press the seed into the soil but do not cover it. Maintain temperatures between 65 ? 75F, and keep the seed moist until germination. Normally, germination is within 21 days. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed.

  • PLANT CHARACTERISTICS: Our Amaranthus Seeds - Illumination grows to a height of 24 inches and is suitable for USDA Zones 3 through 10. It requires full sun and well-drained soil. This hardy variety works well in garden beds and containers, offering steady growth and vibrant foliage with minimal maintenance, making it adaptable to various planting conditions.
  • SEASON & BLOOMING: As annual flower seeds, our Amaranths bloom from mid summer to late fall. The orange and scarlet with yellow centered flowers provide a soft contrast against other plants, blending well in garden designs. With their long bloom period, they continue to offer visual interest throughout the warmer months, helping to fill spaces and add texture to any garden arrangement.
  • BOLD SPIKY BLOOMS: Amaranthus plants feature striking spiky blooms that stand out in any garden. These unique, elongated flower clusters create a bold vertical element, adding texture and interest to flower beds or containers. Their distinct shape makes them an eye-catching focal point, while their long-lasting qualities ensure that they retain their visual appeal throughout the growing season.
  • CUT FLOWER POTENTIAL: Our Amaranthus annual flowers make impressive cut flowers. Their spikes hold their shape and color when cut, either fresh or dried, bringing texture and depth to arrangements. With their ability to last for extended periods, they are suitable for floral displays, offering long-lasting beauty to bouquets and decorative centerpieces.
  • PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS: For healthy results, sow our Amaranthus garden seeds at a rate of 4 seeds per plant, pressing them gently into the soil without covering. Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart to allow them room to grow upright. Keep seeds moist until germination, which takes 10 to 21 days. This variety is easy to start indoors or directly outdoors after the frost season ends.
