Amaranthus tricolor is a fast growing annual that does well in heat and humidity. This variety, known as Early Splendor, looks wonderful when planted in mass with all the different colors making a brilliant display. It features chocolate brown colors with bright red on top, and it only reaches 24 inches in height, so it makes a great container plant for the patio or porch. Start Amaranthus seed indoors in the spring for transplanting outside as soon as temperatures warm up. Press the seed into the soil, but do not cover it. Keep the seed moist and maintain temperatures between 65 ? 75F. Germination is usually within 21 days.
