This film is based on a novel "Evenings with Peter the Great" by Daniil Granin. This film is about the last two years of life of the great Russian ruler and his last love. At the end of his life, Peter the Great fell in love with a woman, who was 30 years younger than him, princess Maria Kantemir. She was one of the most educated people of her time. She was about to give birth to her child and to become the empress, but the intrigues and sudden death of the emperor didn't let that happen...
