- When you install a new lamp the lamp timer should be reset so the ballast board can input more power for the new lamp. If this is not performed, the new lamp would only receive enough power to turn on for a moment. Also, with old TV devices, a ballast board has to be replaced at least once or it can't provide the correct wattage and can make the lamp to turn off or explode. Basic Troubleshooting 1) Unplug the TV from the wall socket 2) While the TV is unplugged, press and hold down the power button in the TV for approx 30 seconds. 3) Leave the TV unplugged for 2 hours. 4) After 2 hours, plug in the TV and turn ON the television.
