On December 16, about 7,000 people gathered at the Old South Meeting House, and upon hearing that the ship would not leave, people poured out of the meeting and headed to Boston Harbor. A group of men, dressed as Mohawk Indians, boarded three vessels and dumped the tea into the water. This event, which became known as the Boston Tea Party, was one of the pivotal events which led to the fight for independence- the American Revolution.
